Shannon Nash is a Partner in the law firm of Guydon Love LLP and Owner of Nash Management Group. Ms. Nash currently heads the firm’s Tax and Non-Profit/Exempt Organizations Practices within the Transactional Group.
Ms. Nash was Senior Tax Counsel for Amgen Inc., a large biotechnology corporation, where she was responsible for handling federal and state income tax appeals, providing legal support to the Amgen’s tax services group which handles federal and state tax audits, providing counsel to Amgen’s international tax group on various issues including transfer pricing and assisted in tax planning initiatives. She also served as special counsel to the Amgen Foundation and was on the Foundation’s Health and Medicine subcommittee.
Prior to Amgen, Ms. Nash was a Tax Associate with the law firm of Cooley Godward LLP in Reston, Virginia where she concentrated on corporate and partnership taxation for venture capital fund formations, mergers and acquisitions for high tech companies, and providing counsel to nonprofit organizations. She was also a tax associate at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart in Washington, D.C., and at Goulston & Storrs in Boston, Massachusetts, where she had a general federal tax and corporate practice.
Ms. Nash has participated on many panels and written several tax related articles. She chaired the tax-exempt tool-kit program for the American Bar Association (“ABA”) Tax Section. This program is designed to help small nonprofit organizations work through the maze of laws (primarily tax) and operational issues that face them. The materials are available free of charge on the American Bar Association Tax Section’s website. In addition, she served as the Secretary of the ABA Tax Section and Co-Chair of the National Bar Association’s Tax Law Committee.
Ms Nash is the author of the award winning book, "For the Love of Money: The 411 to Taking Control of Your Taxes and Building Your Net Worth.” She also wrote the "Vault Guide to Tax Law Careers," and "Helping the Nonprofit Client." She has been featured as a tax/legal expert on many programs such as: The John Salley Block Party with Ananda Lewis (KKBT 100.3 FM Los Angeles), Lamont King and Friends (XM Radio), and Washington Business Radio's Market Close Live (WDMV 700 AM), Style Network's Modern Girls Guide To Life and BET's The Center. In addition, she penned a weekly finance/tax column for Lee Bailey's Electronic Urban Report (www.eurweb.com) and has been featured as the finance/tax expert in publications such as: The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Global Finance Magazine, Jet Magazine, Essence Magazine, Ebony Magazine, LA Parent Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, Upscale Magazine, Bankrate.com, ABC News Online and The Washington Times.
Ms. Nash received her BS in Accounting from the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce and her JD from the University of Virginia School of Law. Ms. Nash is a member of the state bars of Virginia and Washington, D.C. and holds C.P.A. licenses from the State of Virginia and California.
